Young Artists Competition 2025 Winners

(GREENSBURG, PA) The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra announces that the 2025 Young Artists Competition Winners’ recital will be held at the Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. The recital is free and open to the public.

On Sunday, February 3, 2025, finalists competed for cash prizes and a chance to perform on the Winners’ Recital. The recital will feature:

Level I – up to Grade 9

Instrumental

2nd place – Alex Schmidt, flute (Franklin Regional MS 8th grader; teacher – Dan Parasky)

Honorable Mention – Sarah Daniels, flute (Greater Latrobe 9th Grader; band director– Ryan Czekaj)

Piano

1st place – Wayne Lee (Franklin Regional MS 6th grader; teacher – Tatanya Gelman)

2nd place – Julian Parker (Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 7th grader; teacher – Jack Kurutz)

Honorable Mention – Barani Oo (Franklin Regional Intermediate School 4th grader; teacher – John Kulik)

Level II – Grades 10-12

Instrumental

1st place – Rhys Vander Kelen, flute (homeschooled junior; teacher – Dan Parasky)

2nd place – Nick Hanington, flute (Franklin Regional HS sophomore; teacher – Dan Parasky)

Honorable Mention – Lacey Pribanic, flute (Franklin Regional HS senior; teacher – Dan Parasky)

Honorable Mention – Elsa Bandli, flute (Franklin Regional HS sophomore; teacher – Dan Parasky)

Piano

2nd place – Roger Huang (Franklin Regional HS sophomore; teacher – Tatanya Gelman)

These performers will present a recital of pieces chosen by the judges from their audition programs. Finals judges were Edward J Kuhn and Alyssa Pysola.
