Categories: WSO General

Greensburg, PA – The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presents Heroic Guitar on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg.

The evening begins with the orchestra and the WSO Chamber Singers performing Handel’s Coronation Anthem No. 1, β€œZadok the Priest,” recently performed at the coronation of King Charles III, and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music.Β Next, the orchestra will perform Mendelsohn’s Symphony No. 4 in A major β€˜Italian.’ β€œMendelssohn’s symphony is filled with the spirit and joy of a holiday trip through the Italian countryside.Β  It’s a work that simply dances with melodic brilliance and infectious rhythms,” said Artistic Director Daniel Meyer.

The concert’s centerpiece is Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring guest guitarist JIJI. β€œShe’s a rising star, and I am excited that she will perform the Rodrigo with us,” said Daniel Meyer, Artistic Director. Composed in 1939, β€œthe concerto quickly became one of the most popular works for guitar and orchestra in the repertoire,β€œ said Meyer.

Praised by The Washington Post for her β€œmesmerizing” and β€œstirring” performances, JIJI is an adventurous guitarist known for her virtuosity and command of diverse repertoire. Through her impeccable musicianship, compelling stage presence, and commitment to commissioning and performing new musical works, JIJI has solidified her reputation as a top 21st-century guitarist.

Ticket prices for the concert range from $20 – $75 and may be purchased at the door or can be reserved by calling the WSO Office at 724-837-1850 or westmorelandsymphony.org. Student Rush tickets are $10 the night of the concert.
