The Westmoreland Symphony presents the first of its new Academy Concert Series featuring the Academy Quartet. The Academy quartet includes musicians Jorie Butler-Geyer and Leah Givelber, violin; Warren Davidson, viola and Cecilia Caughman, cello. “We are looking forward to presenting smaller, intimate concerts that give us a chance to perform a wide variety of music including modern composers,” said Michael Rozell, WSO Executive Director.
The concert opens with a string quartet arrangement of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Welsh hymn Rhosymedre, followed by Joseph Haydn’s “Sunrise” quartet – a piece that combines elegance, rustic wit, and rhythmic vigor. The Academy Quartet violinists will play a selection of short pieces from contemporary composer Elaine Fine’s Autumn Leaves. Next is Schubert’s sweet and charming String Quartet in E flat. A sultry Tango by Texas composer Michael McLean concludes the program.
