February 15, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. – The Palace Theatre
The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presents Love Stories on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg.
The centerpiece of the concert is Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor featuring guest musician Zlatomir Fung. “He’s a brilliant cellist and an artist on the rise, and I’m thrilled he will play the great Dvořák Cello Concerto,” said Daniel Meyer, Artistic Director. Composed in 1895, “the concerto has become one of the most treasured pieces in the repertoire,“ said Daniel Meyer, Artistic Director.
The evening begins with the exquisite Intermezzo from Pietro Mascagni’s opera Cavalleria Rusticana, a timeless work of lyrical beauty. Next, the orchestra will perform Igor Stravinsky’s enchanting Divertimento from The Fairy’s Kiss, a ballet inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Ice Maiden.”
An artist who plays with “jaw-dropping brilliance” (Dallas Morning News) Zlatomir Fung was the youngest musician to ever win the First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition Cello Division. Winner of multiple prestigious awards, Fung made his recital debut at Carnegie Hall in 2021 and was an artist-in-residence with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2023–2024. He began playing cello at age three and studied at the Julliard School.
Ticket prices for the concert range from $20 – $75 and may be purchased at the door or can be reserved by calling the WSO Office at 724-837-1850 or westmorelandsymphony.org. Student Rush tickets are $10 the night of the concert.
