The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presents its 55th Season Opening Night on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg. “I warmly welcome the community to help us kick off our 55th Season. It’s my first concert as the new Executive Director and I look forward to sharing a season full of inspiring music with the community,” said Michael Rozell, Executive Director.

The centerpiece of the concert is Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring Janice Carissa on piano. “Janice Carissa is a brilliant young pianist, who is really starting to take the musical world by storm, and we are so thrilled we are able to share the stage with her,” said Daniel Meyer, Artistic Director.

The concert opens with two romantic works including Khachaturian’s Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia, followed by Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture.” These are two wonderful romantic works, one from the 20th century –  the Adagio from Spartacus, which is a brilliant ballet that is such beautiful and romantic music, followed by Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. When you hear this work with the full orchestra it is really something quite thrilling and exciting.” said Meyer.

Janice Carissa is a Gilmore Young Artist and winner of Salon de Virtuosi. She is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and is pursuing her Master’s Degree at The Juilliard School. Her artistry has been showcased at an array of renowned stages, including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Kennedy Center, Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, Louis Vuitton Foundation and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Ticket prices for the concert range from $20 – $69 and may be purchased at the door or can be reserved by calling the WSO Office at 724-837-1850 or online.  Student Rush tickets are $10 the night of the show.
