The WSO Academy of Music’s Summer Philharmonic Wind Ensemble will present a free concert Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. at Seton Hill University’s Performing Arts Center, downtown Greensburg.
“The Summer Philharmonic Wind Ensemble commissioned To Champion Our Future, a new work by Composer Mark Surovchak in honor of Morrie Brand and his extraordinary contributions to music education and the arts in the Greensburg community. We are deeply thankful for the musicianship, generosity, and vision he has shared with all of us,” said Adam Gillespie.
Music Director Adam Gillespie conducts the concert that includes Morrie Brand’s Percussion Concerto, Frank Tichell’s Shenandoah and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana Suite.
Morrie Brand was the Managing Director of the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra for 17 years and established the WSO Academy of Music in 2005. He conducted the Philharmonic and established the Philharmonia and String Ensemble. He also founded the Summer Philharmonic and Summer Philharmonic Wind Ensemble in 2013.
Adam Gillespie is a professional trumpet player with a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Carnegie Mellon University and is the current WSO Academy of Music Director and Personnel Director for the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra.
Mark Surovchak is a music educator and freelance musician residing in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance from The University of North Texas.
