(GREENSBURG, PA) The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Home for the Holidays concert of choral and instrumental holiday pops on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace Theatre, Greensburg.

The concert is conducted by Daniel Meyer, WSO Artistic Director, and features such favorites as Sleigh Ride, Selections from the Nutcracker, It’s Christmastime and more. The All-Star Choir of Westmoreland County, directed by Chris Bartley joins the Westmoreland Symphony in performing Joy to the World, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, the Hallelujah Chorus and Holiday Sing-Along. The choir is made up of 60 students from area schools including Latrobe, Belle Vernon, Derry, Southmoreland, Connellsville and singers from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and the WSO Chamber Singers.

“Home for the Holidays
is one of my favorite concerts because it gives aspiring young high school students a chance to perform with a professional orchestra, it’s a wonderful experience for all involved. The concert is a tradition for Greensburg, full of favorite carols and holiday music, and is a perfect festive night out to gather friends and family together close to the holiday,” said WSO Executive Director Michael Rozell. Soprano Amanda Powell is the guest soloist. She will sing Winter Wonderland, Rejoice Greatly, The Christmas Song, O Holy Night, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, The Christmas Song, and joins the choir on several songs. She has toured internationally as a soloist in baroque opera, oratorio, and crossover folk programs. She is a fluent improviser and has collaborated with such artists as Bobby McFerrin and Sheila Jordan. Amanda currently tours with the Italian folk group, Alla Boara.
