|For Elementary School String Students
WYSO String Ensemble, Matt Hettinga, Director
Meets on Monday evenings, 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. at the Academy of Music from February 6 – April 24. Tuition is $99, second child $66. Spring concert will be held April 24. This is a training group for elementary school string players, including violins, violas and cellos. While no audition is necessary for participation, most members are taking private lessons, learning the equivalent material to that found in Suzuki books I and II. Students learn to how to play in an ensemble and how to follow a conductor. Registration Form

For Middle and High School Students
Meets Saturday mornings 9:30-11:30 .m.
January 28 – April 8. Spring concert will be held April 9 at 3 p.m. String students should be comfortable in first and third positions, have a solid knowledge of note values, dynamics, key signatures, and be able to play major scales up to 3 sharps and flats. Members should be taking privates lessons. Winds and brass are encouraged audition. For strings, an audition is optional, but doing so allows for better chair placement. | For High School Students
WYSO Philharmonic – Morrie Brand, Director Meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30- 8:45 p.m. from February 1- April 19, 2017 at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center. The spring concert will be held April 9 at 3 p.m. The group consists of auditioned high school musicians, who rehearse on Wednesday evenings and perform concerts each fall and spring. String students should be comfortable in first through fifth positions, have a solid knowledge of note values, dynamics, key signatures, off-the-string playing, and be able to play major scales up to 4 sharps and flats. An audition is necessary and private lessons are required. Equivalent of Suzuki book V and up.The Philharmonic also provides a Concerto Competition for members to compete to perform a concerto with the orchestra. The competition is held every January, with a spring semester performance. A WYSO Solo and Ensemble Night is offered each May, featuring individuals and small ensembles from the Philharmonic. Private Lessons for All Ages
The Academy of Music offers 30, 45 and 60 minute private lessons for violin, viola, cello, voice and flute. Students pay for lessons at the beginning of each month. Call 724.837.1850 for more information
