Classical Encounters
This music appreciation mini-course is offered in groups of four class sessions, designed to explore four basic periods of music – Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century. Emphasis is placed on recognizing the various styles and learning terminologies that improve one’s knowledge and appreciation for what is happening in the music. These sessions are ideal for people who wish to sharpen their listening skills. The instructor is Morrie Brand, current Executive Director of the Westmoreland Symphony and Academy of Music. He is a former professional musician and composer, and was a college music instructor for more than ten years before becoming an arts manager.
Private Lessons
Lessons are offered to all string students in violin, viola and cello. Flute and voice lessons are also available. Call 724-837-1850 for a list of teachers and available times.
Concert Previews
Before each classical music concert of the Westmoreland Symphony a concert preview will be offered to those attending the concert that evening. These very popular lectures begin at 7:00 and last for approximately one half hour. The sessions are free of charge with the presentation of your concert ticket for the evening’s performance.
